New Year, New Series
Briggs & Stratton 33S877 engine models replace the older 33R877 models that were branded as Intek Series engines. Around 2016, Briggs & Stratton introduced the EXi Series, specifically for use on residential-use push mowers. The new EXi series engines featured user-friendly characteristics like the ReadyStart system for easy starting, tool-free access to key components for simple maintenance and βJust Check & Addβ technology that allowed users to simply add oil without having to change out the old oil.
Over the following years, Briggs & Stratton enhanced other engine lines, including our spotlight riding mower engine. The old 33R877 Intek engine was eventually replaced with the 33S877 Professional Series engine. A little further down the road, Briggs tweaked the branding and features, which brings us to our current version of the engine:Β the EX1900 Durable Series.Β
With all that being said, engine designs are constantly being improved upon as new technology becomes available. Another replacement series is already on the way. In Briggs & Strattonβs 2025 engine catalog, the 5210PX series is called out for engine model numbers beginning with 33S8. That doesnβt necessarily mean that our specific spotlight engine will be branded under the new 5210PX Series right away, but we can assume that new, enhanced engines will eventually replace the current ones.
